What this edit does
Put a lit city skyline behind your portrait for an evening atmosphere. The night city scene combines a dark blue sky, distant window lights and a quiet rooftop setting. Your original photo stays unchanged in the foreground, so its lighting is especially important for this effect.
When to use this look
Try an evening-style profile picture, a nightlife-themed invitation or a creative urban portrait. Compare it with the daylight skyline to find the better match for your photo.

A portrait taken against an ordinary room becomes a composite with night city behind the person. The face and clothing remain from the original photo.
Tips for a believable result
- Choose a softly lit portrait; a bright flash-lit face may look separate from the darker scene.
- Check for pale outlines around hair against the night sky and avoid placing a bright building light against the face.
The model targets the prominent person in a still image. Fine hair, motion blur, crowds, or similar foreground and background colors can reduce cutout quality.
Four steps
- Open or capture a portrait
Use a local image file, or start the camera and capture a still photo after the optional timer.
- Let the browser find the person
The on-device model separates the prominent person from the original background once per photo.
- Preview night city
Inspect the result, move or fit a scene if needed, and adjust edge softness. Switch presets without repeating the cutout.
- Save the result
Choose PNG for transparency or JPEG for an opaque image. Nothing downloads automatically.
Common questions
Does the night city effect make my face darker?
No. It replaces the background and does not simulate nighttime lighting on the person.
Can I move the city lights away from my head?
Yes. Use the background position controls to adjust the crop of the entire scene.
Does this work with a webcam photo?
Yes. Start the camera, choose a timer if you like, and capture a still image. Camera permission is requested only when you press Use camera.
Does changing backgrounds upload my photo?
No. Portrait segmentation and composition run in your browser. The model and preset images are static files downloaded from this site.
