PORTRAIT BACKGROUND GUIDE

What this edit does

Give your portrait a calm home setting with a comfortable sofa, plants and soft window light. The living room background replaces a distracting room with a prepared domestic interior. It is an easy way to try a relaxed portrait setting while keeping your own face, hair and clothes.

When to use this look

Create an informal profile picture, a personal introduction image or a portrait with a cozy indoor feel. Home and living room are covered by this same background.

A portrait taken against an ordinary room becomes a composite with living room behind the person. The face and clothing remain from the original photo.

Tips for a believable result

  • Use soft daylight in the original portrait to match the window-lit room.
  • Adjust the crop so the sofa and window read as background details rather than objects touching the head.

The model targets the prominent person in a still image. Fine hair, motion blur, crowds, or similar foreground and background colors can reduce cutout quality.

Four steps

  1. Open or capture a portrait

Use a local image file, or start the camera and capture a still photo after the optional timer.

  2. Let the browser find the person

The on-device model separates the prominent person from the original background once per photo.

  3. Preview living room

Inspect the result, move or fit a scene if needed, and adjust edge softness. Switch presets without repeating the cutout.

  4. Save the result

Choose PNG for transparency or JPEG for an opaque image. Nothing downloads automatically.

Common questions

Can I use a photo of my own living room instead?

Yes. Choose a custom local background image to place your portrait over your own room photo.

Will furniture cover part of my portrait?

No. The selected background sits behind the person. This editor does not place furniture or other scene objects in front of the cutout.

Does this work with a webcam photo?

Yes. Start the camera, choose a timer if you like, and capture a still image. Camera permission is requested only when you press Use camera.

Does changing backgrounds upload my photo?

No. Portrait segmentation and composition run in your browser. The model and preset images are static files downloaded from this site.
