PORTRAIT BACKGROUND GUIDE

What this edit does

Give your portrait a daytime city view from a rooftop terrace. The skyline background shows buildings in the distance with open sky above, adding an urban setting without crowding the face. Adjust the background crop to keep recognizable room around your portrait.

When to use this look

Try a city-themed personal profile, a speaker introduction or a travel-inspired social image. The night city preset offers a separate view with evening lights.

A portrait taken against an ordinary room becomes a composite with city skyline behind the person. The face and clothing remain from the original photo.

Tips for a believable result

  • Use a daylight portrait so the person fits the bright city scene.
  • Keep tall buildings from appearing to grow out of the head and leave the terrace edge below the face.

The model targets the prominent person in a still image. Fine hair, motion blur, crowds, or similar foreground and background colors can reduce cutout quality.

Four steps

  1. Open or capture a portrait

Use a local image file, or start the camera and capture a still photo after the optional timer.

  2. Let the browser find the person

The on-device model separates the prominent person from the original background once per photo.

  3. Preview city skyline

Inspect the result, move or fit a scene if needed, and adjust edge softness. Switch presets without repeating the cutout.

  4. Save the result

Choose PNG for transparency or JPEG for an opaque image. Nothing downloads automatically.

Common questions

Can I select a specific city?

This preset uses one prepared city scene. You can open your own skyline photo as a custom local background if you want another location.

Is there also a night skyline?

Yes. Choose Night city from the same picker to compare an evening setting while keeping your portrait open.

Does this work with a webcam photo?

Yes. Start the camera, choose a timer if you like, and capture a still image. Camera permission is requested only when you press Use camera.

Does changing backgrounds upload my photo?

No. Portrait segmentation and composition run in your browser. The model and preset images are static files downloaded from this site.
