Check the physical camera
Open a privacy shutter and remove any lens cover. Some laptops have a camera key or hardware switch.
Check the selected input
Choose another camera in the device menu. A virtual camera can display black when its source app is closed.
Compare with another app
Try the operating system camera app. If its preview is also black, check drivers, connection, and hardware.
Reset the session
Stop the test, close competing camera apps, then start again. A browser restart can clear a stuck capture session.
