How to Share Your Screen on Viber

Share your screen in a Viber call on desktop, Android or iPhone, check what others see, and fix a missing button, black screen or lag.

Viber lets you show your screen to the people you are talking to during a call. This guide covers the desktop app and phones, how to confirm the other side sees what you expect, and what to try when the option is missing or the shared view is blank.

Before you start

Screen sharing in Viber happens inside a call. It is not a local recording tool. The picture is sent to the other participants over the internet, so you need a working connection, a signed-in Viber account and at least one other person in the call.

  • Update Viber on your device and ask the other participants to update too. The option may be missing or behave differently in older versions.
  • Decide which device to share from. The desktop app on Windows or macOS is usually the most convenient way to show documents or a browser window. On a phone, notifications and other apps can appear in the shared view.
  • On macOS, be ready to grant Viber the Screen Recording permission in the system privacy settings the first time you share.
  • Close or hide anything you do not want others to see, such as chats, password managers, email or banking pages. Turn on Do Not Disturb so pop-ups stay off the shared screen.

Viber's own privacy documentation describes how shared screen content is protected and whether it is stored. Check the current wording there instead of assuming, especially before you show work or customer data.

Step-by-step instructions

On Windows or macOS

  • Open Viber for Desktop and start a call with a contact or group, or join a call you were invited to.
  • Find the screen sharing button among the call controls. Icons and labels change between versions, so hover over the buttons to see their names. If you do not see the control in a voice call, switch to video and check again.
  • Choose what to share. Depending on your app version and operating system, you may be able to pick an entire display or a single window. Sharing one window keeps your other apps private.
  • On macOS, if the system asks for Screen Recording permission, allow it. Reopen Viber if prompted, then start sharing again.
  • To stop, click the sharing control again or use the stop option shown while sharing. Ending the call also ends sharing.

On Android

  • Start or join a Viber video call.
  • Look for screen sharing in the call controls. If the controls are hidden, tap the screen once to show them.
  • Android shows a system prompt warning that the app will be able to see what is on your screen. Read it, then confirm to start. Some Android versions let you choose between the whole screen and a single app.
  • Leave the call screen and open what you want to show. The call keeps running in the background.
  • To stop, return to Viber and turn sharing off, or use the sharing notification if your device shows one.

On iPhone or iPad

  • Start or join a Viber video call.
  • Tap the screen sharing option in the call controls.
  • iOS opens a system broadcast dialog. Check that Viber is the selected app and tap Start Broadcast. A short countdown runs before sharing begins.
  • Switch to the app or content you want to show.
  • To stop, return to Viber and end sharing, or tap the red recording indicator at the top of the screen and choose to stop.

Button placement changes between Viber releases, and a feature can reach desktop and mobile at different times. If these steps do not match your screen, check Viber's in-app help for your platform and version. Every step here can be undone: stopping the share or ending the call returns things to normal.

Check the output

The most reliable check is to ask someone in the call to describe what they see. A preview on your side only shows that capture started, not that the image arrived.

  • Ask them to confirm the correct window or display is visible, not a black or frozen frame.
  • Open a document and scroll, then ask whether small text is readable. If it is not, zoom in on your side, because the shared image may be scaled down or compressed on a slow connection.
  • If you shared a single window, switch between apps and confirm that only the intended content appears.
  • If the others need to hear sound from a video or app, play a short clip and ask whether it comes through. Do not assume device audio is included; this depends on the platform and app version.
  • Confirm that no notifications or private windows appeared during the share.

Fast motion, such as video or games, often looks less smooth to viewers than on your own screen, because the stream adapts to the available bandwidth. To watch a clip together, sending the file is often the better choice.

Common problems and next steps

The screen sharing option is missing

Update Viber and restart it. Make sure you are in an active call, because the control does not appear in a chat on its own. If it is absent in a voice call, switch to video. If your phone still does not offer it, try the desktop app signed in to the same account.

The other person sees a black screen

On macOS, open the system privacy settings, find Screen Recording, enable Viber and restart the app. On any platform, protected video from streaming services and some banking apps can block screen capture and appear black by design. Share a different window to confirm that sharing itself works.

Sharing is laggy or blurry

Pause downloads and other bandwidth-heavy apps, move closer to your router or use a wired connection on a computer, and turn off your camera if you do not need it. Quality is limited by both ends, so ask viewers whether their own connection is weak.

Others cannot hear sound from your device

Test audio with a short clip as described above. If device sound is not included, do not rely on your microphone picking up the speakers, because this causes echo and poor quality. Send the file instead.

You cannot find how to stop sharing

Return to the Viber call window and use the sharing control again. On Android and iOS, the system indicator usually offers a stop option as well, and ending the call always stops sharing. To remove Viber's screen access on macOS entirely, turn off its Screen Recording permission in the system privacy settings.
