How to Turn Off Audio Description on Amazon Prime Video

Step-by-step instructions for turning off audio description on Amazon Prime Video on TVs, streaming devices, mobile apps, and web browsers.

Before you start

Audio description on Amazon Prime Video is a separate narration track that describes visual details during playback. The setting is controlled locally in the player for each title, so you do not need to contact Amazon support or change your account settings. The exact steps depend on the device and app version you are using, but the control is usually found in the playback or subtitle/audio settings rather than the main app settings.

Step-by-step instructions

Turn off audio description in a web browser

Start playing a video and wait for the content to appear. Move your pointer over the playback area to reveal the on-screen controls, then select the speech bubble or subtitle/audio icon in the upper-right corner of the player. Look under Audio or Audio and Languages and choose the track that does not include the words Audio Description or descriptive audio in its name.

Turn off audio description in the mobile app

Begin playback in the Prime Video app on your phone or tablet. Tap the screen to show playback controls, then tap the speech bubble or audio/subtitles button. Depending on the app version, this either opens a panel directly or shows separate Audio and Subtitles options. Select Audio and choose the standard language track rather than the Audio Description version.

Turn off audio description on a TV or streaming device

While the video is playing, press the pause or select button to bring up the playback controls. Navigate to the speech bubble, audio, or subtitle option, open it, and find the Audio section. Select the regular language track. On some TV apps, the label may appear as English rather than English Audio Description. After selecting a standard track, resume playback and the descriptive narration should stop.

Check the output

After changing the track, play a section where dialogue occurs. You should hear the program's normal dialogue without an additional voice describing scenes, clothing, facial expressions, or on-screen text. If the narration is gone, the standard audio track is active. Keep in mind that the selection can be title-specific, so another movie or series may open with Audio Description enabled again.

Common problems and next steps

The setting is not visible in the player

The audio menu appears only during playback, not on the title's details screen. Make sure the video is actually playing and that the controls are not hidden. If you still do not see an audio option, update the Prime Video app or try another supported device.

Audio description turns on again for other titles

On some platforms, the selected track is remembered per profile or title group, while on others it may reset for new content. Check the audio track each time if descriptive narration returns unexpectedly. This is a normal version-dependent behavior, not necessarily a fault with your device.

The only available track includes audio description

A small number of titles may offer a descriptive track as the sole version in a particular language. If you cannot select a standard track, try switching to a different language when one is available. If the issue persists for multiple titles, check whether the app or device has an accessibility setting that invokes descriptive audio globally, but note that not every platform exposes such a system-level override for Prime Video.
