MixPad Multitrack Recording Software for Mac

Practical guide to starting a multitrack recording in MixPad on a Mac, checking the result, and fixing common audio issues.

Before you start

You need an installed MixPad edition that supports multitrack recording on macOS. Check the app version and edition first, because the free version may restrict some tracks, formats or effects. MixPad runs locally on the Mac, so projects and recordings are handled on that computer unless you choose a cloud or network location yourself.

Connect your audio interface, USB microphone or built-in Mac microphone before opening the project. If you use an interface, connect it directly to the Mac and check that the device is powered and recognized. Close other apps that may also use the input, and turn down monitoring volume to avoid sudden feedback.

Step-by-step instructions

Use this order when you want to record several sources onto separate tracks.

  • Open MixPad and create a new project, or open an existing project where you want to add recordings.
  • In audio settings or device preferences, select the input device connected to your Mac.
  • Create or select the first audio track and set its input to the microphone, interface channel or other source you plan to record.
  • Arm the track for recording so MixPad monitors the chosen input.
  • Set the recording level using the track meter while speaking or playing the source; keep strong peaks below the top of the meter.
  • Add more armed tracks if you are recording several inputs at the same time.
  • Press Record, perform the take, then press Stop.
  • Repeat for any tracks you record separately.

Menu labels can differ between MixPad versions. Look for recording controls near the track header or in the transport area, and use the same audio settings that identify the selected output device. A setting such as sample rate should match the rate supported by your interface if the software asks you to confirm it.

Check the output

Play back the project and confirm that every intended track contains audio. Check that each track plays at the expected position and that the separate recordings stay in sync with one another. If a track looks flat or silent, verify that the correct input was assigned before the take.

Listen for clipping, excessive noise or missing sections. Watch the meters during playback; a track recorded too hot may sound distorted even if the waveform appears small. MixPad saves or exports to the formats offered by your edition, so check the available save or export options if you need a specific file type and quality.

Common problems and next steps

If MixPad cannot see the microphone or interface, check the macOS input permission and make sure the device is selected as the input in MixPad rather than only as the system input. Restart MixPad after changing the device connection.

If a track records silence, confirm that the intended track is armed and that its input selector matches the connected device or channel. A stereo input recorded to a mono track, or a track armed with no input, can also produce no usable signal.

For timing drift between several interfaces, use one clock-capable device as the recording source where possible, or record one device at a time. If the editor feels slow with many tracks, reduce the number of simultaneously armed inputs and close unused effects or preview windows before recording.
