Why iPad Screen Recordings of Zoom Have No Sound
Step-by-step troubleshooting for iPad screen recordings of Zoom meetings that have no sound, including Control Center settings and in-call tests.
Identify the symptom and environment
The issue usually appears when you replay an iPad screen recording of a Zoom call and hear nothing, even though the video looks correct. Start by confirming the full setup: the iPad model and iPadOS version, whether you are using the built-in microphone or a headset, and whether the Zoom audio came from the speaker or an output device. Check whether this happens only with Zoom or with every recorded call.
Isolate where the fault occurs
Separate the possible causes before changing settings. First, play a saved voice memo to confirm the microphone can record sound normally. Then start a screen recording while playing a local video with sound; if the playback clip has no audio, the screen recording setting is the likely cause. If local media records with sound but Zoom does not, the problem may be in how the call audio is routed or in the selected microphone during the meeting.
Also consider how you join the call. A Bluetooth headset or external input device can change which microphone and output device Zoom uses. If the meeting audio goes to headphones but the recorder tries to capture the iPad speaker, the result may be silent.
Try reversible fixes in order
Open Control Center and touch and hold the screen recording button. Look for the microphone option; if it is off, enable it before starting the recording. In current iPadOS versions this control may be labeled Microphone On or Microphone Off, so the exact wording can vary.
Before recording the Zoom meeting, run a short test with the same audio route. Join a test meeting, speak briefly, and record a few seconds. Stop the recording and play it back at a comfortable volume. If you hear only your own side or no voice at all, change one setting at a time and repeat the test.
For the meeting itself, try using the iPad speaker and built-in microphone without Bluetooth or wired audio. Close unrelated apps that may request microphone access. A camera permission prompt is not usually responsible for missing recording audio, but a microphone permission issue can prevent voice capture, so verify that the recorder is allowed to use the microphone.
Confirm the result
Record a new short Zoom test under the same conditions as the failed recording. Play it back and check that voices are audible and understandable. If the test recording has sound, record the actual meeting using the same Control Center settings and the same audio device. Do not assume the fix worked until the original symptom is gone in a fresh recording.
If the problem remains
Keep notes about what you observed: whether local video audio recorded correctly, which microphone and speaker were used, and whether Bluetooth was connected. If only Zoom recordings are silent even with the screen recording microphone on, contact Zoom support or Apple support with those details. A silent recording alone does not prove that the iPad microphone or speaker hardware is faulty.
