How to Fix Out-of-Sync Audio in iPad Screen Recordings
Practical steps to diagnose and fix audio that drifts out of sync in iPad screen recordings, including app, connection, and settings checks.
Identify the symptom and environment
Out-of-sync audio in an iPad screen recording usually appears as speech that no longer matches lip movement, game sound that arrives late, or recorded audio that gradually drifts further from the video. Begin by noting exactly when the problem occurs: while recording a call, a microphone input, system sounds, or a specific app. Also record the iPad model, iPadOS version, and whether you are using the built-in screen recording control, a third-party recorder, or recording through a computer or capture card.
Isolate where the fault occurs
First separate the possible sources. If the issue happens in only one app, the app may be handling audio or video timing differently. Test a short recording in another app with similar audio. If you are using an external microphone, Bluetooth input device, or wired audio adapter, make a second recording with the iPad built-in microphone and no external connection. Compare whether the delay appears only with the external input device.
Check whether the recording setting is capturing microphone audio, device audio, or both. Some apps or call services behave differently when microphone access is enabled. If the recording includes headphones, a speaker, or another output device, route the audio to the iPad speakers during the test. This can show whether the output device or wireless connection is adding latency.
Try reversible fixes in order
Start with the least disruptive changes. Close the app you are recording and open it again, then make a short test recording. Reduce background noise and move closer to the microphone if you are recording voice, because a weak input level can make small timing problems more obvious.
Disconnect Bluetooth audio devices and wired adapters when they are not required. A Bluetooth input or output device can introduce delay that changes during a recording. Use the iPad speaker and built-in microphone for a comparison clip before deciding whether the problem is in the recording itself.
Check app and system permission settings. In Settings, go to Privacy and Security, then Microphone, and confirm that the recording app and the app being recorded have the access you expect. If a recording app offers an audio source option, choose only the source you need instead of combining several streams. Some recording tools also expose a setting for sample rate or audio sync adjustment; if present, try the default or lower value before changing other settings.
If iPadOS or the app has a pending update, install it after saving your work. Version differences can change control names, so look for the closest equivalent setting if a menu path is not exact on your iPadOS version.
Confirm the result
Record a short clip with the same content that previously drifted. Watch the beginning, middle, and end of the clip to see whether the offset stays constant or grows. Audio that is delayed by the same amount throughout may be easier to correct in an editor, while drift that increases suggests a timing problem during capture.
Test with the built-in microphone and iPad speakers first. Then add back one external device at a time to confirm which connection or output device changes the result. The fix is confirmed when the original symptom no longer appears in the same app and recording setup that failed before.
If the problem remains
Keep a note of the iPad model, iPadOS version, recording app version, audio source, and whether the delay was constant or growing. If the issue appears only with a particular external input device, test that device on another system or with a different cable and adapter if available.
Contact Apple Support or the recording app developer when the same offset appears across apps and recording methods. A persistent timing problem is not enough on its own to prove failed hardware, but the pattern of observations can help support identify whether it is a system, app, or accessory issue.
