How to Turn Off Audio Description on Paramount Plus
Learn how to turn off audio description on Paramount Plus when a narrator keeps describing scenes, including how to switch audio tracks and reset the setting.
Before you start
Audio description is part of the video stream rather than a separate system setting. When a show offers it, Paramount Plus may play the descriptive track instead of the standard English track. You change this from the audio or language menu during playback, so the process happens locally on the device you are using and does not require changing the service account from a web dashboard.
Step-by-step instructions
Start playing the affected title on Paramount Plus. The option is only available while video is playing, because the audio track belongs to the current player session.
Open the playback controls. On a phone or tablet, tap the screen once. On a TV app, use the remote to bring up the control bar. In a web browser, move the pointer over the video.
Select the audio or language option. The label can vary by app version and device: look for “Audio,” “Languages,” or a speech-bubble or settings icon in the player.
Choose the standard track without “Audio Description” in its name. If the list shows English Audio Description and English, select English. On some apps the descriptive track may appear as “English - AD” or “English (Audio Description).”
Let playback continue for a few seconds. The change is reversible: you can reopen the same menu and select the descriptive track again if you want it back.
Check the output
After switching tracks, listen for the narrator. If the voice has stopped describing actions, settings, and scenery, the standard track is active. If dialogue also changes language and you did not intend that, reopen the audio menu and choose the matching language without the description label.
Keep in mind that some titles only offer a descriptive English track. In that case there will not be a second English option to choose, and the narrator is not caused by a setting that can be disabled.
Common problems and next steps
If Paramount Plus audio description will not turn off, the change may not have been saved by the player. Stop the video, close the app completely, and start the title again. This clears a player session that may still be holding the previous audio selection.
On some TVs, the setting may be part of the device accessibility menu instead of the Paramount Plus player. Check whether the TV or streaming device has an audio description option enabled, and turn it off there if present.
If the selection always returns to Audio Description for every episode or title, check the app version and update it. Report the behavior through the Paramount Plus help channel only if the same track keeps activating after an update.
