MY WEBCAM TEST GUIDE

How to set the default camera in Chrome

Choose a default camera in desktop Chrome, check the camera selected by your video app, and confirm that the correct webcam provides the picture.

In desktop Chrome, open Settings, go to Privacy and security, select Site settings, and open Camera. Use the camera selector to choose your preferred webcam. A website’s own camera selection can also affect which device it uses, so check that setting when starting a call or recording.

Choose your preferred camera

Connect the webcam you want to use before opening the camera settings. If it has a physical privacy shutter, open it before checking the picture.

  • 1. Open Chrome’s three-dot menu and select Settings.
  • 2. Select Privacy and security.
  • 3. Open Site settings, then select Camera under Permissions.
  • 4. Open the camera selector and choose the webcam you want Chrome to use by default.

These steps apply to desktop Chrome. The supplied information does not identify your operating system or Chrome version, so the exact labels and layout have not been verified for your installation.

Confirm that the correct camera is active

Open the website where you want to use your webcam and start its camera preview or video setup. Allow camera access if prompted. If the website has its own camera menu, select the same webcam there.

Check the preview to confirm that it shows the intended camera’s view. If the cameras show similar views, briefly cover one lens to identify which device is supplying the picture.

Keep camera selection and permission separate

Choosing a default camera selects a video input; it does not grant websites permission to use it. Chrome must detect the webcam, the website must have camera access, and the intended camera must be selected for the session. Changing the camera also does not change your microphone, which has separate input and permission settings.
