How to Invite a Guest to Facebook Live

Learn how to invite a guest to Facebook Live, check guest requirements, join the broadcast and fix common audio or video issues.

Before you start

Facebook Live guest invitations work through the Facebook Live Producer interface and require an internet connection for both the host and the guest. The host starts the live video setup, obtains an invitation link, and sends it to the guest outside the stream setup window. The guest joins from a supported browser or the Facebook mobile app, depending on the version of the feature available to the account.

Make sure you are using a Facebook account or page that is eligible to go live. The guest does not need to be an admin of the page, but the account must be able to receive the invitation and approve camera and microphone access when prompted. Some Facebook interfaces call this a live guest, broadcast guest, or guest appearance in a live room.

Step-by-step instructions

To invite a guest to Facebook Live, start from the live broadcast setup on the account or page that will host the stream.

1) Open Facebook Live Producer on a computer or use the live video option in the Facebook mobile app.
2) Select whether you are starting a live video now or scheduling a live video for later.
3) Choose the camera, microphone and destination settings for your broadcast.
4) Find the guest invitation or add guest option in the live setup panel. On many accounts this is listed near the video preview or under a settings section during broadcast setup.
5) Copy the guest invitation link generated by Facebook.
6) Send the copied link to your guest using a separate message, email, chat app or another communication method you both trust.
7) Ask the guest to open the link while you are in the live setup screen or broadcast and approve access to the camera and microphone when prompted.
8) Wait for the guest to appear in the broadcast preview, then accept or add the guest when Facebook shows the request.
9) Arrange the guest audio and video, then start the live broadcast when you are ready.

Not every Facebook account sees the same guest controls in the same place. If you cannot find the invitation option, check whether the live video type is a standard live broadcast rather than a scheduled post or another video format, because guest support can vary by interface version and page type.

Check the output

Before you go public, confirm that both the host and guest video appear in the preview and that you can hear the guest through the selected audio device. If the broadcast supports a split-screen or picture-in-picture layout, check that both participants are visible and that the host can still control the broadcast.

Guest video quality depends on the guest's connection, camera and microphone, not only on the host's settings. Listen for echo or feedback, especially if the guest is using speakers instead of headphones. After the live broadcast ends, check the saved video to confirm that the guest's audio was recorded with the stream as expected.

Common problems and next steps

If the guest cannot join, first confirm that they used the most recent invitation link and not an expired or truncated copy. Guest links may stop working after the stream is ended or after Facebook replaces the setup session, so a new live setup usually needs a new link.

Check camera or microphone permission if the guest sees a black video box or is heard but not seen. The guest may need to allow browser or app access, refresh the invitation page, or use a supported browser. If audio is missing, confirm that the correct microphone is selected and that the browser or app is not muted.

If the guest option still does not appear, avoid forcing exact menu names from another interface version. Compare the available live video tools on the account, use the help option inside the live setup screen if available, and treat any privacy or recording notice shown by Facebook as the current requirement for that account.
