MY WEBCAM TEST GUIDE

How to Go Live Using the Facebook App

Learn how to start a Facebook Live broadcast from the Facebook app on a phone or tablet, check your stream settings, and fix common live video issues.

Before you start

You need the Facebook app installed on a phone or tablet and an account that can create live videos. The stream is produced from the device camera and microphone, while Facebook handles broadcast delivery, comments, and viewer information. Check that the app has permission to use the camera and microphone, and connect to a stable network before going live. A weak connection can create interruptions even when the camera preview looks fine.

Step-by-step instructions

The exact buttons can change slightly between app versions, but the main flow is similar on Android and iOS.

1) Open the Facebook app and sign in to the account you want to use. 2. Tap the Live or Live video option. Depending on the version, this may appear in the status composer, in a menu for creating a post, or as a camera-related option from the feed. 3. Allow camera and microphone access if the app asks for it. 4. Choose where the live video should appear: your timeline, a page you manage, a group, or an event. 5. Add a description that tells viewers what the stream is about. 6. Check the camera, microphone, and audience settings before starting. 7. Set the camera to front or rear and frame the shot. 8. Tap Start Live Video or the equivalent broadcast button when you are ready.

If you use an iPhone or iPad, the app normally uses the device camera directly. The same live feature is available across the main Facebook app, while some advanced scheduling or production tools may only be available in certain versions or account types. Keep the procedure reversible by using the audience selector before you start and the end button when you want to stop.

Check the output

After the stream starts, confirm that the live indicator is visible, the timer is moving, and comments or reactions are appearing. Check a preview of your own stream if the app shows one, and ask a viewer to confirm that audio is audible and video is not heavily distorted. Mobile live video is intended for a vertical or handheld format, so fast movement, low light, and changing distance from the microphone can affect quality.

When you finish, tap Finish or End Live Video and confirm that the video is saved or posted according to your settings. Review the saved version before sharing it further if the exact quality matters to you.

Common problems and next steps

If the Live option is missing, update the Facebook app and check whether the account or destination allows live video. A page or group can have role or moderation settings that prevent you from starting a broadcast.

If the video freezes or stops, move to a stronger network or switch between mobile data and Wi-Fi. Close other apps that may be using the camera, microphone, or bandwidth. If audio is missing, check the app permissions in the device settings and make sure the microphone is not covered or muted. Restart the app only after ending the current attempt so you do not accidentally leave a partial stream live.

For a damaged saved broadcast, check whether the original is still accessible in your videos or activity log. If the destination was a page or group, an admin may need to adjust publishing or live-video permissions before you try again.
