How to Fix Logitech Webcam Flickering

Practical steps to find and reduce Logitech webcam flickering on Windows 10 and Mac by checking lighting, frame rate, resolution, camera selection and permissions.

Identify the symptom and environment

Flickering usually appears as rapid brightness changes, dark bands rolling through the picture, or the image turning off and on. First note where it happens: in one video call app, in the camera preview, in a browser-based tool, or in every app that uses the webcam. Also record the operating system and the selected camera if more than one video device is available.

The cause changes with the environment. On Windows 10, common areas include power management for USB ports, driver behavior, and app-specific camera controls. On Mac, the same visible symptom may come from lighting, app settings, or the port or hub being used with the camera.

Isolate where the fault occurs

Compare the same camera in two different apps. If the flicker appears in a browser test page but not in a built-in camera app, the likely cause is browser camera permission, camera selection, or the page requesting a resolution and frame rate that do not suit the current lighting.

If the flicker appears only during a call, close other apps that may be using the camera at the same time. A camera shared by two programs can switch modes repeatedly and look like flicker. If possible, choose the Logitech camera explicitly in the app instead of relying on an automatic or default selection.

Check whether changing the lighting changes the symptom. Some flicker is not a camera fault: mains-powered lights can pulse at a rate that the sensor captures at certain frame rates. Turn off artificial lights temporarily or move the camera toward daylight and watch whether the bands disappear.

Try reversible fixes in order

Start with settings because they are quick to undo. In the app or browser tool, lower the resolution first, then lower the frame rate if needed. Many apps show an advanced camera settings section with controls such as anti-flicker, exposure, power line frequency, auto exposure, gain and white balance.

For regions with 50 Hz mains electricity, try a power line frequency or anti-flicker setting of 50 Hz. For 60 Hz regions, try 60 Hz. If the control is available, switch off automatic exposure or automatic gain and reduce exposure manually until the image is stable.

On Windows 10, reconnect the camera directly to a USB port on the computer rather than through a hub or monitor. In Device Manager, open the camera properties and look for a Power Management tab; if a setting that allows the computer to turn off the device is enabled, deselect it. Check the same location after moving the camera between ports, because the setting can apply per port.

On Mac, quit the affected app and reopen it after checking camera permission. In System Settings under Privacy & Security, confirm that the camera permission is enabled for the app you are testing. Some apps also keep a separate device list where the Logitech camera must be selected instead of a built-in camera.

In a browser, review the site or page settings for camera access. Remove a previously allowed camera and allow it again, then confirm that the preview uses the intended device. In macOS browser settings, the browser may need permission under both camera and the relevant app category.

Confirm the result

Return to the exact page, call screen or preview where the flicker first appeared. Keep the same lighting and camera position, then observe for at least the same length of time that originally showed the issue. Move your hand in front of the lens and let the exposure adjust to check that the video remains steady afterward.

If the image is now stable, re-enable one previous setting at a time only if you need it. Do not combine multiple changes without checking, because that can hide which adjustment fixed the symptom.

If the problem remains

Keep notes on which app, operating system, port, hub, lighting, resolution and frame rate were used. Also record whether the camera works with another computer or mobile device if available. A flicker that stays after clean settings, direct connection and stable lighting may need support from Logitech or the computer maker, especially if it occurs on both Windows 10 and Mac with different apps.

A continuing symptom does not prove that the webcam hardware has failed. Loose ports, shared USB bandwidth, outdated system software and third-party camera utilities can still produce video problems without damaging the device.
