How to Fix Iriun Webcam Flickering
Practical steps to diagnose and reduce Iriun webcam flickering by checking lighting, resolution, frame rate, connection, camera permission, and selected camera settings.
Identify the symptom and environment
First, note when the flickering appears. If it happens only in one video call or recording app but not another, the problem is likely app selection or software settings. If the image also flickers in the camera preview on the phone, the issue may be with the phone camera, lighting, or connection.
Record the device, operating system version, and app where the problem occurs. Also check whether the flicker is fast pulsing, slow brightness changes, or occasional black frames. These details help narrow the cause before changing settings.
Isolate where the fault occurs
Open the camera preview on the phone outside Iriun Webcam. If the native camera image is steady, the phone camera is probably working correctly. If the native preview also flickers, move to a different room or change the lighting and observe the result.
On the computer, check that Iriun Webcam is available to the app where the flicker occurs. In the app settings, look for a selected camera option and confirm that Iriun Webcam is chosen. Some apps remember a previous camera or switch devices during a call.
Check camera permission on the phone and on the computer. A denied or partially allowed permission can make the image unstable in some apps. On the computer, review the app-level camera permission as well as the operating system permission.
Try reversible fixes in order
Check lighting first
Lighting is a common cause of apparent flicker. Overhead lights and monitors can create a strobing effect because the camera frame rate does not match the light frequency. Turn off one light source at a time or move so that natural light is the main source, then test again.
Lower resolution and frame rate
In the Iriun Webcam settings, reduce the resolution and frame rate. A lower load can prevent dropped frames that look like flicker. If the image becomes steady, increase one setting at a time until you find the highest stable combination.
Reduce the wireless load
If the phone is connected wirelessly, move it closer to the router or reduce other traffic on the network. An unstable connection can interrupt the video and appear as flickering. If a USB connection is available, connect the phone by cable temporarily and see whether the problem changes.
Check the selected camera in the app
In the video call or recording app, open the camera or video settings and select Iriun Webcam explicitly. Then close the preview and reopen it. This can clear a stale camera selection that causes the app to switch back and forth between devices.
Confirm the result
Return to the app where the flickering first appeared and use the same lighting and position. Watch for at least 30 seconds because some flicker only starts after a device has been running for a while. If the image is steady, test the same setup in one more app to confirm that the selected camera remains Iriun Webcam.
If the problem remains
Keep a note of what you changed and what you observed: native phone preview, lighting, resolution, frame rate, connection type, and app behavior. If the native phone camera flickers under several different light sources, the phone or its camera may need support from the device manufacturer.
If the image is steady on the phone but flickers only in one desktop app, check that app's camera and performance settings. Flickering in a single app is not proof that the webcam or phone hardware has failed, so avoid resetting the phone or disabling security settings as a first response.
