How to Fix Webcam Flickering in Zoom

Practical steps to stop Logitech webcam flickering during Zoom calls on Windows 10, including lighting, camera selection, exposure, resolution and frame rate checks.

Identify the symptom and environment

Start by noting when the flicker appears. If the image pulses or brightens and darkens repeatedly during a call, the cause is often automatic exposure reacting to lighting in the room. This is different from a camera that freezes, drops out or shows horizontal bands. Record whether the problem appears only in Zoom, only in another app, or in every camera preview. Also note the operating system: the steps below apply to Logitech webcams used on Windows 10, but the same principles work on newer Windows versions.

Isolate where the fault occurs

Open the built-in Camera app or the Logitech camera software and view the preview without starting a Zoom meeting. If the image is stable there, the issue is likely related to Zoom's selected camera or settings rather than the webcam itself. If the flicker appears everywhere, continue with lighting and exposure adjustments. Check that light in the room is steady: fluorescent tubes, screens changing brightness and moving shadows can all make automatic exposure hunt. Add a consistent light source facing you and reduce bright backlight from a window.

In Zoom, open Settings, choose Video, and confirm the correct device appears under Camera. If another camera or a virtual camera is listed, select the Logitech webcam explicitly. Close other programs that may be using the camera at the same time, because one device can normally feed only one application reliably.

Try reversible fixes in order

Begin with the least disruptive settings changes. In Zoom, open Settings, go to Video, and try a lower resolution such as 640x360 or 1280x720, then watch the preview. Check whether a different frame rate option is available for the selected camera; some flicker disappears at 30 fps or 25 fps. The exact list may vary by driver and Zoom version, so only change options that are visible.

Next, use the Logitech camera settings available through Logitech's software or the camera properties in Windows. Turn off automatic exposure or set a fixed exposure value, then reduce gain if the image looks washed out. Disable automatic white balance only if color continues to shift after exposure is stable. Keep the changes reversible and note the original value before changing it.

Check Windows camera permission and app access carefully. In Windows 10, open Settings, go to Privacy, then Camera, and confirm that access for the device is allowed and that desktop apps are allowed to use the camera. If access is already enabled, do not broadly disable security settings; instead verify that Zoom is not being blocked by another camera utility.

If the flicker continues, reduce possible electrical interference. Connect the webcam to a different USB port, preferably one directly on the computer rather than a hub. Avoid placing the camera cable alongside power cables. Unplug and reconnect the camera, then test again in the Camera app before opening Zoom.

Confirm the result

After each change, return to the Zoom video preview and watch for the original symptom under the same lighting conditions. Ask a contact to confirm whether your transmitted video is stable, since the local preview may not always match what other participants see. A stable image in preview but continued problems in a meeting may point to bandwidth or lighting changes rather than the webcam.

The fix is confirmed when the camera remains stable for several minutes with the room lighting unchanged and no other app using the device. Avoid testing with moving lights or in a dark room unless that matches your usual call environment.

If the problem remains

Keep a short record of the camera model, operating system, Zoom version and the conditions under which the flicker happens. Note whether it also occurs in the Windows Camera app and whether any driver or system update preceded the problem. Check for official Logitech software updates through the manufacturer's support site rather than downloading drivers from unknown sources.

A flickering image alone is not proof that the hardware has failed. Contact Logitech support or a local repair service if the camera flickers in multiple apps, on another computer, and with steady lighting, or if the symptom began after physical damage. Provide the observations you recorded so the support team can check for a known driver or hardware issue.
