Fix Iriun Webcam when it is not connecting
Iriun Webcam stays offline when the phone and desktop clients never complete a session, so meeting apps get no camera or speech input. Start with reversible checks.
Why Iriun Webcam is not connecting
Iriun Webcam stays disconnected when the phone app and the desktop client never finish a live session on the path you chose, usually a shared local network or a USB cable. Until that session exists, the computer does not register Iriun as a camera. Any microphone that same session would expose for speech is missing as well, so meeting and recording apps have no Iriun input to select and either use another device or capture silence. Official, versioned cause lists, supported-model tables, and exact menu paths were not supplied for this guide, so treat every check as a hypothesis and match labels to the Iriun build and operating system you actually have.
Isolate why the session never starts
Begin with reversible checks. A suspected cause counts only after the result changes the symptom. If a check leaves the connection in the same state, restore that setting and continue.
| Check | What the result indicates | Next action |
| Phone app and desktop client are both open, and any on-screen version note matches | A closed client or an incompatible pair blocks the session | Launch both sides, update them from the same source you already use, then retry |
| Phone and computer share one local network, with VPN disconnected and guest or AP-isolated Wi-Fi avoided | Wireless discovery often dies across separate networks, VPNs, and client isolation | Join the same LAN, disconnect the VPN, then retry |
| A data-capable USB cable and the client’s USB mode as a second path | If wireless fails and USB also fails, the problem sits in drivers, cable, or USB permission rather than Wi-Fi isolation | Use a cable that carries data, accept only the USB prompt the client shows, then retry |
| Camera, microphone, and local-network permissions granted to Iriun on the phone | Denied permission stops the phone from sending video or speech | Grant the permissions, relaunch the phone app, then retry |
| Operating-system camera and microphone access allowed for the Iriun desktop client and for the meeting app | The session can start while apps still see a blocked or empty Iriun device | Allow access, then reselect the Iriun camera and the intended microphone in the meeting app |
| Firewall or security software prompting, or a brief allow-list test | Filtered local traffic can look like a dead connection | Allow the desktop client, turn protection back on, then retry |
| Other capture apps closed, and both Iriun clients restarted | A locked camera or microphone handle can mimic a failed connect | Quit other capture software, restart both Iriun clients, and reboot only if the lock remains |
If the session is still down after these checks, remaining hypotheses include a cable that carries charge only, a phone or computer this Iriun build does not support, or a client defect. This brief does not include a supported-device list or a repair threshold from the vendor. Vendor support or replacement is a reasonable next step after both apps launch, permissions are granted, wireless isolation is ruled out, and a data-capable USB path fails in the same way.
Restore Iriun and confirm speech is captured
You need the Iriun app on the phone, the matching desktop client, a charged phone, and either a shared local network or a USB data connection. You also need a meeting or recording app whose sound settings show an input meter.
- Quit conferencing and recording apps so the camera and microphone are free for Iriun.
- Launch the desktop Iriun client, then launch the phone app.
- Use the connection mode you intend to keep: the same Wi-Fi with the VPN disconnected, or USB if wireless discovery already failed.
- Wait until the desktop client shows an active preview or another in-session state. If that state never appears, return to the isolation table.
- In the operating system’s privacy and sound settings, allow microphone access for the desktop client and for the meeting app. Select Iriun as the camera. If an Iriun or phone microphone is listed, select it for input. If no Iriun microphone is listed, select the microphone you speak into.
- Open the meeting or recording app, choose those same devices, and speak at a normal distance from that microphone.
Speech capture is working when the selected input meter moves as you talk and a local recording or the far end reproduces your voice at a normal speaking level. If the Iriun camera preview is live and the meter stays flat, the connection problem is solved and the remaining task is input selection or a microphone this Iriun session is not exposing: switch the meeting app to a known working microphone and watch the meter again. If the preview never appears, keep working on the session itself; app-level audio settings cannot start a camera that is still offline.
