How to Enable Camera Permissions for DoorDash
Turn on camera access for the DoorDash app on iPhone or Android, or in a browser, check that the camera works, and fix common permission problems.
DoorDash may ask for camera access when a task involves taking a photo, such as a drop-off photo, an identity check or a picture of an order issue. If you denied that request earlier, or the camera shows a black screen, the fix is usually in your phone or browser settings rather than inside DoorDash. This guide shows how to grant camera permission on iPhone, Android and in a browser, and how to confirm it works.
Before you start
Camera permission is controlled by your device's operating system or your browser. DoorDash can request access, but only you can grant or revoke it in system settings. Granting access lets the app use the camera. What happens to photos afterwards, such as whether they are uploaded or how long they are kept, depends on DoorDash's service and policies. Check DoorDash's current privacy information if that matters to you.
- Know which app you use. The customer app and the Dasher app are separate apps, and each has its own permission setting.
- Update the app to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
- Close other apps that might be using the camera, such as video calls or camera apps.
- If the phone is managed by an employer or has parental controls, those settings may block the camera regardless of what you choose.
Step-by-step instructions
iPhone and iPad
iOS shows the camera access prompt only once per app. If you tapped Don't Allow, the app cannot ask again, so you need to turn access on manually.
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap DoorDash (or the Dasher app if that is the one you use).
- Turn on the Camera switch.
- If you do not see a Camera option, open DoorDash and start the feature that needs the camera first. The option appears only after the app has requested access.
- Alternatively, go to Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Camera, and turn on the switch next to DoorDash.
- Return to DoorDash. If the camera still does not open, close the app fully and reopen it.
Android
Menu names vary by Android version and phone maker, but the path is usually similar to the steps below.
- Open Settings and tap Apps (on some phones, Apps & notifications).
- Find and tap DoorDash or the Dasher app.
- Tap Permissions, then Camera.
- Choose Allow only while using the app. This is enough for taking photos within DoorDash. Ask every time also works, but it shows a prompt on each use.
- As a shortcut, press and hold the DoorDash icon, tap App info, then open Permissions.
- On Android 12 and later, also check the Camera access tile in Quick Settings. If it is off, every app is blocked from using the camera, even if the app's own permission is allowed.
Web browser
If you use DoorDash in a browser and a page needs the camera, the browser asks for permission for that site. If you blocked it, open the site settings, usually through the icon next to the address bar, and change Camera to Allow. Then reload the page. Your computer's operating system may also need to allow the browser itself to use the camera in its privacy settings.
All of these changes can be undone. To revoke access later, turn the same switch off or set the permission back to Don't allow.
Check the output
Open the DoorDash feature that needs the camera and confirm that a live preview appears instead of an error or a black screen. Make sure the correct camera is selected. Identity or selfie checks typically use the front camera, while photos of a doorstep or a package usually use the rear camera. If the app shows a button to switch cameras, use it to choose the right one.
Picture quality matters more than settings like resolution or frame rate, which the app usually controls. Before you take the photo, check these basics:
- Wipe the lens. Smudges cause blur and haze.
- Use even lighting. Avoid strong light behind the subject, and do not let a bright light reflect off an ID card.
- Hold the phone steady and wait for the camera to focus.
- Check the captured photo to make sure the important details are readable before you submit it.
Common problems and next steps
- No permission prompt appears: you probably denied access earlier. Enable it manually using the steps above.
- DoorDash is missing from the camera permission list: open the app and start the camera feature once so it requests access, then check again.
- The permission is on, but the preview is black: close other apps that use the camera, force-close and reopen DoorDash, and restart the phone if needed.
- The camera is blocked for all apps: on Android, check the Camera access tile in Quick Settings. On iPhone, check whether Screen Time restrictions block the camera.
- The switch is greyed out or keeps resetting: an employer profile, device management or parental controls may control it. Ask whoever manages the device.
- The camera works in other apps but not in DoorDash: update or reinstall the app, then grant the permission again. If the problem continues, contact DoorDash support from within the app and describe the screen where it fails.
