Fix Cuates y Cuetes webcam not working

Webcam or microphone not working on Cuates y Cuetes? Check physical controls, other apps, OS privacy settings, browser permissions and device selection, in order.

The short answer

When a webcam won't work on Cuates y Cuetes, the cause is usually one of four things. The camera is blocked at the operating system level. The browser has denied the site permission. Another app is already using the camera. Or the wrong camera is selected. The first test that changes everything is whether your camera works in a different app on the same device. If it fails everywhere, the problem is the camera, its connection or the operating system. If it works elsewhere but not on Cuates y Cuetes, look at browser permissions, device selection and the site itself.

No documentation from Cuates y Cuetes about its own camera or microphone settings was available for this guide. The steps below cover the layers that apply to any website or app that uses your camera. Where a step depends on the platform's own controls, the guide says so.

Camera and microphone are separate

Your webcam captures video and your microphone captures audio. Browsers and operating systems usually ask for permission for each one separately, so one can work while the other fails. Each one can also fail at three different points:

  • Detection: the computer can see the device at all.
  • Permission: the operating system and browser allow the site or app to use it.
  • Selection: the site or app is using the correct device, if you have more than one.

Write down which part fails (video, audio or both) and what you see. A black preview, a permission error, no camera in the list and a frozen image each point to a different check.

Checks that narrow down the cause

1. Test the camera outside Cuates y Cuetes

Close the site. Then open the built-in camera app: Camera on Windows, or Photo Booth or FaceTime on a Mac. If you see video there, the camera is connected, detected and working at the operating system level. This test does not check browser permissions or the site's settings, so a pass only tells you to look further along the chain. If the camera fails here too, skip browser settings for now and go to the physical and operating system checks.

For the microphone, open your system sound settings. Speak and watch the input level meter. On Windows it is under Settings > System > Sound. On a Mac it is under System Settings > Sound > Input. A moving meter shows the microphone is detected and picking up sound. It does not show that any browser or site is allowed to use it.

2. Rule out physical controls and connections

  • Look for a sliding privacy shutter over the lens. A covered lens usually gives a black image, not an error.
  • Some laptops have a keyboard key or switch that turns the camera off. Check your manufacturer's documentation for your model.
  • For a USB webcam, unplug it and plug it into a different port. Avoid unpowered hubs while testing.
  • For a headset or external microphone, check for a mute switch on the cable or the earcup.

3. Close other apps that may be using the camera

On many systems, only one application can use a camera at a time. Video call apps, streaming software and other browser tabs can hold the camera even when they are in the background. Fully close them, then reload Cuates y Cuetes. If the camera starts working, the conflict was the cause.

4. Check operating system privacy settings

On Windows 10 and 11, go to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera. Confirm that camera access is on, that apps are allowed to access your camera, and that desktop apps are allowed to access your camera. Browsers count as desktop apps. The Microphone page in the same section has matching settings for audio.

On macOS, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and turn on access for the browser you use. Do the same under Microphone. You may need to quit and reopen the browser before the change takes effect.

On a phone or tablet, the setting is per app. On iOS and iPadOS, open Settings, select your browser and check Camera and Microphone. On Android, the permission is under the browser's app info in system settings. Menu names can vary by manufacturer and Android version.

5. Check the browser's permission for the site

Open Cuates y Cuetes. Click the icon at the left of the address bar to open site information, and set Camera and Microphone to Allow. Then reload the page. If you blocked a permission prompt earlier, the browser remembers that choice and will not ask again until you change it.

  • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Camera (and Microphone).
  • Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Camera (and Microphone).
  • Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Permissions > Camera (and Microphone).
  • Safari on Mac: Settings > Websites > Camera (and Microphone).

Browsers only allow camera and microphone access on secure connections. If the address bar shows the page as not secure, the browser may never offer the permission. In that case, make sure you are on the secure version of the site.

6. Confirm the correct device is selected

If you have more than one camera or microphone, the browser may be using the wrong one. This includes virtual cameras installed by streaming or effects software. The same browser permission pages from the previous step let you choose a default camera and microphone. If Cuates y Cuetes has its own device selector, check that as well. Whether it has one could not be confirmed for this guide. A camera that works in other apps but shows a blank or unexpected image here is often a selection problem.

What each result points to

Result | Likely layer | Next step
Camera fails in the built-in camera app too | Hardware, connection, driver or OS privacy | Physical checks, OS privacy settings, then driver steps
Camera works elsewhere, site shows a permission error | Browser site permission or OS permission for the browser | Allow camera for the site and for the browser, then reload
Black image with no error | Privacy shutter, camera key, or wrong or virtual camera selected | Check the lens and switch, then the selected device
Error saying the camera is in use or can't start | Another app is holding the camera | Close other apps and tabs, then reload
Video works but no audio | Microphone permission, selection or mute | Repeat the permission and selection checks for the microphone
Everything passes but the site still fails | The site or this browser | Try another browser, then contact the site's support

Fixes, and how to confirm they worked

Start with changes that are easy to undo: allowing a permission, closing an app, switching the selected device or reconnecting the camera. After each change, reload Cuates y Cuetes and test the exact thing that failed before. Don't make several changes at once, or you won't know which one fixed it. The fix worked when the original symptom is gone on the site itself. Passing a test in another app doesn't count.

  • Restart the browser after changing operating system permissions, then restart the computer if it still fails.
  • Try a different up-to-date browser. If the camera works there, the issue is with the first browser's settings, extensions or profile. Turning off extensions one at a time can show which one is interfering.
  • Reset the site's permissions in the browser, then reload and accept the new prompt. This clears your saved choices for that site only.

Driver steps (only if the camera fails in every app)

Driver changes only make sense if the camera also fails in the built-in camera app. On Windows, check Windows Update for optional driver updates, or use the driver from your laptop or webcam manufacturer's official support page. Windows 11 also has a camera troubleshooter under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras. Device Manager lets you uninstall a camera device and restart so Windows reinstalls a driver. Be aware this can replace a manufacturer driver with a generic one and remove features that came with the manufacturer's software. Follow your manufacturer's guidance before doing this. On a Mac, camera drivers come with macOS updates, so there is no separate driver to reinstall for the built-in camera.

When to stop and get help

If the camera or microphone still fails in the built-in apps after the physical, privacy and driver checks, the problem is with the device or the system, not Cuates y Cuetes. Contact your computer or webcam manufacturer's support. If the camera works in other apps and on other websites but not on Cuates y Cuetes in two different browsers, the problem may be on the platform's side. Contact its support and tell them your operating system, browser and version, and the exact error message.
