How to Connect Bluetooth Headphones to PS5
Step-by-step instructions for connecting Bluetooth headphones or earbuds to a PS5, checking the output, and fixing common pairing or audio problems.
Before you start
Make sure the headset is charged and within range of the console. Put the headphones into pairing mode before the PS5 searches for them; the exact method varies by model, so check the headset instructions if needed. This process runs locally on the console and does not require a separate service or account.
Remove the headphones from other nearby devices or turn Bluetooth off on them. The console may detect a headset that only supports the Hands-Free profile, but game and chat audio quality can be limited without a supported connection method.
Step-by-step instructions
Turn on the PS5 and go to the home screen. Open Settings from the top-right area, then choose Accessories.
Select Bluetooth Accessories from the Accessories menu. The PS5 searches for nearby devices that are in pairing mode. If you do not see the option, check that the system software is up to date.
Put the headphones in pairing mode and wait for their name to appear in the list. Select the name, then follow any on-screen prompts to register the device.
After registration, return to Settings, select Sound, then Audio Output. Confirm the headphones are shown as the output device. To reverse the change, select the TV, AV amplifier, or another connected device instead.
Check the output
Play a short system sound or open a game and listen for audio through the headphones. If the sound continues from the TV, open Settings, choose Sound, then Audio Output, and make sure the headset is selected.
Test chat separately in a party or voice chat screen if you plan to use a microphone. Keep the headset turned on and unmuted. Bluetooth headphones may have different behavior for game sound and voice chat depending on profile support, so confirm both paths if both matter.
Common problems and next steps
If the headphones do not appear, put them in pairing mode again and keep other devices disconnected. Move the headphones closer to the console and move away potential sources of interference, such as USB 3 devices, routers, or crowded wireless areas.
If audio cuts out or is delayed, check the battery level and reduce distance from the console. Some codecs or headset modes introduce more delay; using a supported low-latency mode or a wired connection can improve the result.
To remove a paired device, open Settings, choose Accessories, then Bluetooth Accessories, select the headset, and delete it. Registering a new headset does not disable other saved devices, but an active connection usually moves to the newly selected output.
If the PS5 does not show Bluetooth Accessories, look for a system software update in Settings under System. Check that the headphones are not connected to another console or device, then repeat the pairing process from the start.
