AVIF to JPG: How to Convert Your Image
Learn how to convert an AVIF image to JPG, choose an online or local converter, and check the result before using it as a photo background.
To convert AVIF to JPG, open the AVIF image in an editor or converter that supports it, select JPG or JPEG as the output format, and save the converted copy. JPG and JPEG refer to the same image format. Changing the filename extension alone does not convert the image.
How to convert an AVIF file to JPG
- 1. Keep the original AVIF file so you can return to it if needed.
- 2. Open it in an image editor that supports AVIF, or select it in an AVIF-to-JPG converter.
- 3. Choose Export, Save As, or the converter’s output-format setting, then select JPG or JPEG.
- 4. If quality and size settings are available, choose settings suited to the app where you will use the image. Avoid resizing unless you need different dimensions.
- 5. Save or download the JPG, open it, and check that its appearance and dimensions meet your needs.
Choose an online converter or a local app
An online converter is an option if you are comfortable uploading the image to a service. Before uploading private photos, check the service’s privacy and file-retention terms. For sensitive images, choose a local app that performs the conversion on your device.
No evidence about a particular converter was supplied, so this guide cannot confirm current AVIF support, free conversion allowances, file-size limits, batch options or privacy practices for CloudConvert, Convertio or other services. Check those details before choosing a tool.
Check quality and transparency
JPG uses lossy compression, so conversion can change image detail. Inspect fine edges, text and smooth color areas in the saved copy. A JPG is not guaranteed to be smaller than the original AVIF; compare the actual files if an upload limit matters.
JPG does not support transparency. If your AVIF has transparent areas, choose a background color before export when the tool allows it. If you need to preserve transparency, use an output format that supports it, such as PNG.
Using the JPG as a photo or call background
Conversion changes the file format; it does not remove or replace the image’s background. To use the result as a virtual call background, check the calling app’s accepted formats, dimensions and file-size limits, then upload the JPG through its background settings. Those requirements were not supplied, so compatibility with a particular app cannot be confirmed.
If the conversion fails
If the tool cannot open the AVIF, check whether it supports AVIF input and whether the file exceeds its limits. Try another compatible editor or converter if needed. If the resulting JPG will not upload, open it locally to check that conversion succeeded, then compare its format, dimensions and size with the destination app’s requirements.
