How to Find Audio Described Movies on Amazon Prime Video

Practical guide to finding and enabling audio described movies on Amazon Prime Video across supported apps and devices.

Before you start

Audio description adds a spoken narration track that explains key visual details during quiet moments in a show or movie. On Prime Video, availability depends on the title, your region, and the app or device version you are using. You do not need a separate download for most supported Prime Video apps, but a title must include an English audio description track for the option to appear. Check the title details page first. If the language menu lists Audio Description or English Audio Description, the feature is present.

This procedure runs in the Prime Video app or web player on your device. You need a Prime Video account, playback access to the selected title, and a stable connection for streaming. Some older smart TV or set-top box apps may not expose the audio description setting even when the title supports it.

Step-by-step instructions

The exact labels vary by app version, but the audio and subtitle menu is the main place to check on most platforms.

1) Open Prime Video and search for a title you want to watch.

2) Open the title details page. Look for an Audio Description label near the rating, runtime, or subtitle information. This does not appear on every title.

3) Start playback and pause the video so the player controls are visible.

4) Open the audio or language menu. On many apps this is a speech bubble, captions icon, or Audio option in the playback settings.

5) Select the audio track labelled Audio Description or English Audio Description. If the only choices are standard stereo or surround tracks, the feature is not included for that title in your current app.

6) Resume playback. You should hear narration describing actions, locations, and other visual information between dialogue.

Check the output

Play a scene with visible action and little dialogue. The added narrator should describe important visual events without overlapping the main dialogue. The track should remain selected when you pause and resume the same title.

Confirm the audio is playing through your intended output device, such as headphones, TV speakers, or a connected sound system. If you hear the original soundtrack clearly but no narration, the wrong audio track may still be active.

Audio description is a separate audio stream, so it does not affect picture resolution or frame rate. The choice of audio track can affect streaming bitrate and data use only in the same way that other audio quality options may.

Common problems and next steps

Audio description option missing: Not every movie or show includes it. Try another title known to offer the track, or check the same title on a different supported device. App updates can also change where the option appears.

Track keeps switching back: Some devices reset audio preferences for each title. Set the track after playback starts and avoid changing profiles or switching devices mid-stream.

Narration is hard to hear: Raise the system volume first, then adjust the player volume. Reduce background noise in the room or use headphones if the narration mixes too quietly with music and effects.

Captions appear unexpectedly: Subtitle settings are separate from the audio track. Open the subtitle menu and turn captions off if they are not needed.

If the setting is missing across several supported titles, close and reopen the app, then check for a Prime Video app update. The feature may also depend on the content license in your region.
