AI Background Generator: Create a Background From Text
Learn how to describe an AI background, refine your prompt, and prepare the result for a photo or video call, with key limitations explained.
An AI background generator turns a written description into an image you can use as a background. Describe the setting, style, lighting and composition you want, then generate and review the result. Creating the image is separate from placing it behind someone in a photo or using it during a video call.
Decide what kind of background you need
For a video call, you need a background image that your calling app accepts as a virtual background. For a photo, you need an editor that can place the generated image behind your subject, or a tool that explicitly supports background replacement. Generating an empty scene does not automatically edit an existing photo. A physical background is the actual space behind you; generating an image does not change that space.
Write a prompt that leaves room for your subject
A prompt is the text description you give the generator. Start with the scene, then specify its appearance and where your subject will sit or stand. For a call background, request a calm central area so prominent objects are less likely to appear directly behind your head.
- Scene: a home office, garden, studio or abstract backdrop.
- Style: realistic photography, illustration or another stated visual style.
- Lighting and color: soft daylight, warm indoor light or a muted palette.
- Composition: open space behind the subject, with decorative objects toward the edges.
- Exclusions: no people, lettering or prominent logos, if those would distract.
Example for a call: “A realistic home office with warm neutral walls, soft daylight and a small bookshelf along the left edge. Keep the central area simple, with space for a seated person. No people, text or logos.”
Example for a photo: “A softly lit studio background in pale gray, with a subtle floor-to-wall transition and open space for a standing portrait subject. Light coming from the upper left. No people or props.” Match the requested lighting direction to the lighting already visible on your subject.
Generate, inspect and refine
- Choose a generator that explicitly supports creating images from text.
- Enter your prompt and select a suitable image shape if that option is available.
- Inspect the result for unwanted objects, distorted details, stray lettering and distracting placement.
- Revise the specific part that needs improvement, such as “fewer objects” or “more empty space in the center.”
- Before exporting, check the destination app or editor for accepted file formats, dimensions and file-size limits.
Check the background where you will use it
For a video call, load the image through the app’s background controls if custom images are supported. Preview yourself and check the edges around your hair, hands and clothing while moving. A generated background does not establish that your camera can capture video successfully or that the call connection is good.
For a photo, inspect the subject’s outline, lighting, perspective and shadows after replacement. If they do not fit the new scene, adjust the edit or generate a background that better matches the original photograph.
What still depends on the tool
No particular generator or calling app is specified here, so its features, pricing, export limits, privacy practices and usage rights cannot be confirmed. Check those details before choosing a service, uploading a personal photo or using an image commercially. Prompt wording guides generation, but you still need to inspect whether the result follows your instructions.
