MY WEBCAM TEST GUIDE

Fix Acer laptop webcam not showing in Device Manager

Check why your Acer laptop webcam is missing from Device Manager, separate camera detection from microphone problems, and decide when to seek service.

If your Acer laptop webcam is missing from Device Manager, first check whether Windows lists it under another category or detects it after a restart and hardware scan. The symptom alone does not establish a driver fault or a broken camera. No Acer model, Windows version or diagnostic results were supplied, so a model-specific fix cannot be confirmed.

Check camera detection before changing drivers

Restart Windows, then open Device Manager. Expand Cameras, Imaging devices and Other devices. A camera may appear under a generic name, while an unidentified device or warning symbol is a clue to investigate rather than proof that the webcam itself is faulty.

Select View > Show hidden devices, then Action > Scan for hardware changes. If the camera appears only as a faded entry, that entry does not confirm that Windows currently detects the hardware. If a current camera entry appears, open its Properties and record the device status and any error code; these provide a more specific basis for the next step.

If the camera returns, test it in the Windows Camera app. A working preview shows that the camera can provide video to that app. If it works there but fails in a conferencing app, check the conferencing app’s selected camera and Windows camera permissions. App permissions are relevant to access, but changing them does not establish why a device is absent from Device Manager.

Check controls and updates for your exact Acer model

Check your laptop’s documentation for a camera switch, keyboard control or firmware setting. These controls vary by model, and their presence has not been established for your laptop. A physical shutter may simply cover the lens, so opening it is not evidence that a missing device should reappear.

If the webcam remains missing, identify the exact Acer model and Windows version before choosing software. Check Windows Update and Acer’s official support resources for updates applicable to that combination. Do not assume that every Acer laptop requires a separate webcam driver or install a package intended for another model.

If the problem began immediately after a driver update and the relevant device still has an accessible Properties window, check whether Roll Back Driver is available. A successful rollback would support an update-related explanation. Without that result, the timing alone does not prove the update caused the problem.

Check microphone capture separately

A missing webcam entry does not establish that your microphone is missing too. Windows manages camera and audio inputs separately, and the supplied information does not identify how this Acer model connects its camera and microphones.

For speech capture, open Windows Settings > System > Sound and check the available input devices. Select the intended microphone and speak while watching the input level indicator. Movement indicates that Windows is receiving an audio signal from that selected input; it does not establish recording quality or confirm that a conferencing app is using the same microphone.

If the input responds, select that microphone in your calling app and check microphone permissions. Make a short recording to assess whether speech is audible and understandable. If no input is available, inspect Audio inputs and outputs and Sound, video and game controllers in Device Manager. Record any device status or error code before choosing an audio troubleshooting step.

When to seek service or use another device

If the webcam remains absent after the restart, hardware scan, documented model-specific controls and applicable updates, seek Acer support or a hardware assessment. Report the model, Windows version, when the problem began, any error codes and whether the microphone still works. Persistent absence warrants further diagnosis; it does not by itself distinguish a connection problem from a failed camera.

An external webcam or microphone can provide a temporary alternative for calls. Replacement of the internal camera is justified only after diagnosis supports a hardware fault. If your immediate need is speech capture and the existing microphone works, you can use that input while the camera issue is investigated.
